EPA Landscaper Workshops Recap

(By Sharalyn Peterson, Healthy Wildlife & Water Program Manager)

The Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP), under contract with the City of Gresham and Oregon Metro, are conducting professionally led landscaper workshops. Working with 8 Latinx landscaping businesses, these workshops promote best practices for pesticide reduction, and the education of human and environmental pesticide risks in Multnomah and Clackamas County.

Topics covered include various integrated pest management techniques, from over-seeding lawns and removing thatch to wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and reading labels.

The first two workshops (pictured above) were held in November of 2023 in Gresham and Oregon City, Oregon. Our next workshop will be held via Zoom on January 25th 2024.

(These efforts are apart of the Pesticide Behavior Change (PBC) project which is in Phase 2 of the Pesticide Reduction Outreach Campaign (PRO). This is an EPA funded project of the Columbia River Basin Restoration grant, currently administered by Multnomah County and run by the Clean Rivers Coalition (CRC) steering committee)
